Ropes Course Programs.
Ropes or Challenge courses utilize natural and artificial environments in a safe and structured series of activities to promote individual growth and group development. These courses offer the process of applying learned principles through sequenced activities to facilitate group goals and objectives.
A student group sets out to achieve a number of established goals and objectives. These goals and objectives are, but not limited to, leadership, problem solving, trust, communication, self-esteem, decision-making, teamwork, responsibility, goal setting, and positive effort. The Ropes course staff strives to serve your group by working to achieve some of the skills and “tools” needed to administer these principles in your group's every day environment and conditions. These skills can aid your students in maintaining a safe and drug-free lifestyle and learn skills that will help in many areas of life.
Butman Methodist Camp Wilderness Challenge Course and/or "The Rock" Climbing Wall
Butman Camp makes the “Wilderness Challenge Course” and "The Rock” climbing wall available to Region 14 middle school and high school students. The challenge course features 21 low and intermediate elements and 7 high elements. The climbing wall offers another opportunity for a personal challenge. Climbers can test their abilities on three climbing courses, each increasing in difficulty. You will find the challenge course and climbing wall to be an engaging and active classroom. Butman Camp will serve small groups with as few as 12 and larger groups with as many as 60 participants. Groups with more than 60 participants must make arrangements at least 1 month in advance and may need to divide their group into 2 separate days for their visit. The course is located approximately 35 miles southwest of Abilene in scenic Mulberry Canyon. We encourage school sponsors to participate with students in activities.
