Inclusion/Access to the General Curriculum

Children with disabilities are ensured an education in the least restrictive environment. Removal from the regular educational environment occurs only when the nature or severity of the disability is such that education in regular classes with the use of supplementary aids and services cannot be achieved.

In order for the administrators and staff of Region 14 to provide appropriate access to the general curriculum (the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills), staff development is provided in research-based instructional strategies and methods. Districts and campuses are provided with staff development, technical assistance, and leadership inn establishing best practices for serving special needs students in the general education classroom.

It is the goal of Region 14 to collaborate with general and special education staff to address individual needs of students and to provide the greatest access to the general curriculum.
