2008-2009 TAH Grant Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who can participate grant program?
A: Any 5th, 8th, or 11th grade American History teacher, other history teacher, or certified teachers desiring to add history certification.
Q: What do teachers have to do to participate?
A: The Program Options Summary details the training hours teachers must complete to receive the stipend and to be eligible for the field experience. Various training options are possible. See the GRANT APPLICATIONS page.
Q: What are the training dates for 2009-2010?
A: Training dates are listed on the Program Options Summary (available on the Downloads page) or on the 2009-2010 Fall/Spring Training page to the left.
Q: When can teachers apply for the program?
A: Registration for 2009-2010 begins on June 17, 2009, and ends on August 31, 2009. Applicants will be notified of their status on September 4th via email.
Q: How will participants be chosen?
A: The number of participants (30-35) will be based on budget availability.
Applicants will be chosen based on information provided in the application. Teachers from schools not meeting AYP or those rated academically unacceptable or on a TAT list, new applicants and those seeking history certification will be given priority.
Q: What is the role of the partners in the project?
A: McMurry University will provide advanced-level content courses to grant participants. The Grady-McWhiney Foundation will provide resources and locations for training. Learners' Online will provide each of the 30 teachers with a perpetual license to their program. Outside content providers such as Colonial Williamsburg and the Bill of Rights Institute will come onsite to Region 14 to present workshops.
Q: How will treatment and control groups be chosen?
A: The selected group of 30 teachers will be the treatment group. Control teachers will be selected in a pair-wise matching process based on similarities.
Q: How will the collected data be used?
A: Student and teacher data will be viewed collectively across grade levels and groups of participants. Collected data will be reported to the United States Department of Education annually according to grant requirements.
